Pelle Yngve Ohlin was born on a cold day, January 16th, 1969. In Vasterhanigg Sweden. To a middle-low class family. Growing up as a child, he was far differant from the other children, even from age three he knew he loved death and knew he would die by his own hand. He had little freinds, so he spent most of his time alone reading on the occult, drawing and righting, and playing in the forest. Early on in his life, he was recognized as a manic depressive unfortunately. One day when he was playing on the ice by himself, the ice broke and he fell into the freezing winter waters. He was rushed to the hospital where apparantly he felt death, with tunnels and odd music. This inspired him, and he adopted the name "Dead". Dead listened to bands such as Bathory, Venom, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, And The Dead Kennedays. So decided to form a band that played similar music. In high school(1987) Dead formed the band Morbid. Dead practised cover songs of the band he listened to, They recorded a few demos, December Moon. And the demo Last Supper which they released in September 1988. The band was never successfull at all unfortunately. In 1988 they disbanded. Dead continued his interest in occultism, and death. He was fascinated with snuff films, although he never actually saw many. He loved to see how people reatced when faced with such things. Dead needed a band to express his energy, and he had heard about the black metal band Mayhem. Dead and Hellhammer joined Mayhem in 1988. Dead moved away from his home to live in Norway with the other band members. Dead was the frontman/lyricist. As a singer, Dead was amazingly unique. His voice sounded like a demon from hell, it fitted the evil dark metal of Mayhem better than anyone elses, and his voice defined a generation of following black metal musicians. Mayhem started to create worldwide waves due to Deads extreme stage antics. As a frontman, Dead was insane. He would cut himself and audience members at the shows. Wear chlothes he had buried for weeks to get a rotting feel. Sniff the dead bodys of birds before the show to get the scent of death, and threw pigs heads around with fellow band member and guitarist Euronymous(Oystein Aarseth). However, Dead didnt do all these things onstage for fun, he did it to rid the posers and wimps in the audience, he would bring crowds of 300 down to around 50. Only the people he decided were worthy enough to see him and Mayhem perform were left in the audience. He got carried away with it several times however. Once having to be hospitalized due to cutting himself badly. Offstage, Dead was mysterious. He was ghostly pale, and skinny as anything. He would not eat for days to get starve wound. This was probably due to him being a diagnosed manic depressive. Even his band members didnt know him well, he spent most of his time alone, writing songs, drawing pictures, and walking in nature. Dead got along with his band fairly well though. Hellhammer and the others described him as a nice honest fellow.

Except for Euronymous, Euronymous and Dead fought alot. For many differant reasons, one was due to Euronymous being a liar, He said that Mayhem would be rich, famous, and respected soon. However, this was not at all true. In fact Mayhem were very poor at that time, and had no food to eat, or no shelter. Hellhammer would often leave when the two got into a heavy argument, once Dead even stabbed Euronymous due to heated fights. Another incident was when Dead was napping. Euronymous came in a put on Electronic music that Dead hated, so Dead went outside in the forest to sleep, Euronymous went outside to shoot off his shotgun, and the noise caused Dead to be up all night. Life was hard for Dead, things rarely went well for him, and luck was not on his side at all. He hated life and all it stood for.

A few things Dead hated were
Cats-One night when he was lying down he heard a cat meow, so he ran outside in only his underwear with a knife and chased the cat into a shed, the cat ran out a hole and Dead chased it through the streets. This was his idea on how to deal with a cat.
He also hated Christians and god. He thought they were pathetic and weak attempts to destroy the powerfull evil that still existed. He also hated everything non extreme metal. He hated the world generally, he felt as if he didnt belong in it. He frequently talked about death, and suicide related topics, With Mayhem, he only played on one recorded album, the legendary live album, Live In Leipzig. Dead continued to get more mysterious and depressed, then one day. Dead was at a freinds disscursing death, he seemd content when he left. Then Euronymous and Hellhammer walked into the apartment they were staying at. They discovered Yngve Dead due to a shotgun wound using bullet s he got as a present from Varg Vikernes. He was wearing a I love transylvania shirt. Euronymous instead of sypathizing for Dead. Reportedly ate pieces of Deads brain. Hellhammer refused to do so, he instead used pieces of his skull for a necklace as a gory keepsake.It from Abruptum and some members of Marduk claim to have pieces of deads skull.

Why he killed himself-Add it up(My opinion)- He was a manic depressive, the only thing he wanted to do was make music for people like him, and the posers/trendys bugged him. I guess he wanted to experience death and he felt he wasnt a part of this world, his familly never kept in touch with him, and he had little freinds, and he was very poor.He spent the days walking, writing, reading, singing, and generally keeping to himself.

Note2-This is a extremely educated and researched guess on his life, I have researched for several months on this topic, and it is hard to assume everyhting as 100 percent correct, it is most likely how he lived his life however.

This man was an amazing frontman, singer, and lyricist.
He is a metal legend.
Poor guy had such a rough life.
