Biography from devildriver.com
A devil driver is the name witches give to the bells they use to drive evil away when they are casting their spells.

For lead singer Dez Fafara, music has always been a devil driver of sorts - allowing him to drive away all of the demons of his world with a bellowing howl that is distinctively his. Ten years long and ten years strong, his assault on music has created a sound that remains both remarkably resonant and pertinent in today's metal world. DevilDriver's second album, The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand , produced by Colin Richardson, sees Fafara and the band reaching well beyond the rock solid foundation of their self-titled debut and scaling all new sonic precipices.

While most bands mature from their debut to their follow-up, DevilDriver did so by growing tighter as unit and enabling every member of the band to add to the musical sound of the band. Like many bands before them, DevilDriver went through a number of transitions during this period, and rather than finding those changes to be creatively constrictive, they allowed the band to grow as a creative unit. A true collaborative effort, The Fury of Our Maker's Hand was built riff by riff, song by song, by Jeff Kendrick & Mike Spreitzer (guitar), Jon Miller (bass) and John Boecklin (drums). “This band is amazing,” says Fafara. “They all strapped on guitars and really came together around my musical vision.” Together they created an album whose sonic breadth is truly a testament to their collaborative effort. “There's more melody, more hooks, more solos. There's more symbiosis in the band. Everyone is playing together really well.”

A balancing act of contorted melody lines, jagged guitars and staccato double bass drumming, The Fury of Our Maker's Hand delivers a uniquely sinister sound. An uncompromising tirade on all that is wrong in the world and all that is right in metal, it delivers a resounding F*** YOU to the world at large. Joined by his band and fueled by perseverance it's good to see that after 10 years Dez Fafara's middle finger is bigger than ever.

.:My 2 cents:.
Well Dez, the singer, was in a band you may have heard of, called Coal Chamer...no? Anyways they were the best at their time in the genre, but people slowly moved away from it. So Dez teamed up and created what you hear today. These guys are the best of all the stuff you hear today. If there were more fans around I'd help mod a DD section, I guess I'll wait. I especially love their latest album, I listen to about 1 hour of it a night. Even if they are nu-metal, I truly don't give a fuck, there music wakes me up, and gets me going. I know many fans of DevilDriver (hi) and I can tell you that DD's music has changed their lives! The lyrics are flawless, and guitar and drums and singing.....well EVERYTHING is fucking amazing!...........

If this is the only thing you ever hear me say, please listen, "Listen to DevilDriver"......that is all.

I love this band. The vocalist has such an evil and powerful voice. The additional sound effects in the songs make you feel like your in hell while listening to Devildriver. My favorite songs from them are Before The Hangman's Noose, End Of The Line, and What Does It Take (To Be A Man).

meh... Kinda' slipknotty... they aren't bad though... but (understandably due to genre) they really don't bring the "fuckin heavy". Vocals are a definite improvement over Coal Chamber.

I really love this band. If I had to pick a favorite, DD would be it probably. Nu-metal gets a lot of shit, but if it can put out front man like Dez then it has something going for it. "I dreamed I died" is my personal favorite track, but I really like every song from the first cd. The 2nd and 3rd cds are both good, but their first album was the one that brought me from listening to crap like Kid Rock and Eminem to crap like Arch Enemy. The songs are powerful, loud, and fast. They always pump me up and make me feel stronger. Props for posting this thread.

coal chamber was a joke. although they had a decent drummer, devildriver has more talent as a whole. i wasn't a fan of their first cd, the second one had a few catchy tracks on it, but their new one is definitely the best so far. plus i think it has a high replay value. 1 1/2 thumbs up.

Pray for Villains, full album, streaming.

It is decent. The band is solid and Dez is also solid songing, but his vocal style seems to be the weakest part of this album. I'd like to see him push the boundaries a little more like he used to, he seems to be now singing in a narrow alley of talent... the songs are all really, really DevilDriver - but new - the vocals on all the songs sound similar. Only about half the songs really hit for me because of that. On the other half I'd like to hear him pick up the tempo in delivery or get more extreme in voice range.

Another Night In London, Teach Me To Whisper, & I See Belief are all classic DevilDriver firing on all cylinders.

These dudes ain't bad at all.
I remember hearing them back in the day.
Haven't heard much of them since, but I saw Clouds Of California on tv today (Which I presume is new) and it was sweet.
Sure they're repetitive at times. But thats talent.

They're very good musicly but something about Dez is sometimes too over the top, would be so much better with more thoughtful lyrics.
