this is a straight foreward thread.

Master of Puppets or Rust In Peace? which album was more of a masterpiece?

I feel both albums are so great it merits having their titles being bolded on message boards, but I prefer Puppets.

You can't really use that as an argument because RIP was released in the 90's.

MOP by far.

I mean, Holy Wars almost makes up for it, but I don't like any of RIP's other songs...mostly because Dave Mustaine's voice is so annoying.

I can't fucking decide!

ill song battle

Holy Wars < Battery
Hangar 18 = Master of Puppets
Take no Prisoners > The thing that should not be
Five Magics < Sanitarium
Poison was the cure < Disposable Heroes
Lecretia > Leper Messiah
Tornado of Souls <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<ORION
Dawn Patrol < Damage inc
Rust in Peace > [NO TRACK]

Master of Puppets wins, even when RIP got the bonus point.

They are still amazing fucking albums!! Can't get enough of them.

Yeah same here, I just sorta shrugged at my dad when he said "Hey look at me play this bass line, it's from an older band you wouldn't like* and he was right, I didn't like older bands, and I kept listening to my Good Charlotte. But then I was watching Vh1 a day later on a Led Zeppelin biography and it kept covering how they were like the greatest band ever so I got into Rock, I mean decent rock.

I listened to Holy Wars many times...and to tell you the truth...I wasn't extremely impressed with it. Sure, it's a good song, but it just doesn't do it for me. Then again, I dislike Mustaine's vocals. I just don't think they can stack up to the legendary MoP.

Master of Puppets is a landmark in metal history because:
1-its an awesome album
2-Cliff Burton's last album recorded
3-has influenced generations of musicians

Rust In peace is a great album because:
1-its Megadeth best album(IMO) and best line up
2-has really great solos and musical passages
3-its megadeth last completely thrash album

I think both have great merrits but master of puppets always raises the hairs on my neck when I hear it..its just a master piece!!

id say master any day! as it was the original thrash album of the 80's. absolutely perfect!

Hmmmm Rust in Peace was Megadeth's fourth album, Master was only the third for Mr Hetlfield and co'. Plus there is quite a time difference between the two. RIP was 1990's and Master was in '84. I think Mustaine had really defined the whole thrashy sound to a fine point, which tended to be more precise and arguably advanced. Where as Master can be technical in the solo's but the Rhytm not so much. So i'de consider it to be an earlier form of thrash that, although enjoyable, can be played by a 13 year old.

Love 'em all =P

i honestly think RIP makes MOP look like shit....

MOP is a greally good album...but metallicas previous 2 were better..

even then RIP is about as close to perfect as you get...every riff is amazing, every solo is amazing, the drums are done perfectly...i love his vocals( although alot of people hate them)i really cannot fathom how MOP is winning by so much...kinda sickens me

I agree, the title song, holy wars, and hangar 18 are so much better than anything on MOP

its hard to deiced but i think i am going to have to go with master of puppets. now some people might say that i chose wrong but this is why i chose master of puppets. master of puppets just has that edge of pure heavy that rust in peace does not have not to say rust in peace isn't good but master of puppets hits it home with the heavy riffig.

Heavy riffing? Did you even listen to the album? Holy wars or five magics or Polaris ring a bell?

i was not talking technically...
even though it is MUCH more technical

Holy Wars, Tornado of Souls, Hangar 18, Take No Prisoners, Lucretia> Master of Puppets

and the other 3 compare with it..

Holy Wars is a bit of a masterpiece though.

Rust in Peace has the strongest 3 opening tracks i've ever heard on any album.

Holy wars - Master Piece
Hanger 18 - Master Piece
Take no prisinors - TAKE NO SHIT!!!

Rust in Peace easily. Master of Puppets wasn't even that good imo.

You can't compare Master of Puppets to Rust in Peace.

You have to compare, if we're going chronologically by album:

Kill Em All - Killing Is My Business...And Business is Good!
Ride the Lightning - Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?
Master of Puppets - So Far, So Good...So What?
...And Justice for All - Rust in Peace

Black Album - Countdown to Extinction
Load - Youthanasia
Reload - Cryptic Writings

St. Anger - Risk

Death Magnetic - World Needs a Hero

If you wanted to go by time period, then you can't count all of the albums of either, and it would look something like this:

Master of Puppets - Either Killing is My Business or Peace Sells

And Justice - So Far, So Good...So What?

Black Album - Rust in Peace

Load - Youthanasia

Reload - Cryptic Writings
St. Anger - Either The World Needs a Hero or The System Has Failed

Death Magnetic - Either United Abominations, or whatever the album is that's coming out this coming January.

Oh, ok and then well compare garage inc. with Md.45.
Dude Rust in peace pwns EVERYTHING metallifail has done... Master of Puppets gets boring after 15 minutes. Plus for some strange reason the vocals bore the hell out of me.

BECAUSE METALLICA IS THE BEST THRASH BAND EVER, RIGHT??

Wrong. Megadeth beats metallica in all areas. See that? metallica doesn't even deserve to be capitalized.

So far, everyone i've met that prefers Megadeth over Metallica has been some of the smartest people I know. Not saying all Metallica fans are dumb, but majority of the ones i've met/know are pretty stupid.

I really don't believe there is any correlation between the preference of Megadeth over Metallica and intelligence levels. But if you want to do the research and publish an article in a reputable peer-reviewed journal it would be a most interesting read. :D
